Rethinking Malevich, wood, iron, glass, vodka; dimensions variable 2013

In its form this work refers to the classic work of Kazimir Malevich entitled “Black square on a White ground”. Installation is displayed in the corner, the same as traditional icons. Malevich black square is symbolically desacralized by being a part of a table with the glasses of vodka. There is no image, no painting, no object of cult. Black square is a point of meeting, where people can drink together. In the polish culture vodka and religion plays a big role. Vodka is a part of family meetings, it is connected with the free time and fun but it also generates problems. It is a legal drug, it is an ingredient of the whole variety of social pathologies.
Religion in Poland have also various functions. It has a spiritual function but it is also a tool in the hands of power, it also can daze. In this work I wanted to display all the various roles of religion and drugs and compose them with the symbol of the black square, god, fetish.
